Australian police have confirmed three people, including the hostage-taker, were killed during a day-long standoff at a Sydney café. The takeover of the Lindt chocolate cafe in Sydney's central business district began around 9:45 a.m. on Monday.Five people escaped the cafe on Monday and another five early Tuesday, just before the police assault. At least three more fled with help from emergency workers.The siege ended around 2 a.m. local time Tuesday when heavily-armed police stormed the shop where New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said a gunman held 17 people hostage for about 16 hours .New South Wales police called the attack an "isolated incident" by 50-year-old Iranian immigrant Man Haron Monis.
Radical Muslim cleric Sheik Man Haron Monis has been revealed to be the ringleader in the Sydney cafe siege that has seen up to 30 people held hostage for more than 10 hours. He was killed by a gunman during the barrage of gunfire during the Seige at the Lindt Chocolate café.
Man Haron Monis, who was granted political asylum in Australia in 2001, was on bail for a string of violent offences, including being an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife.
He was also facing more than 50 sexual and indecent assault charges and had a conviction for sending abusive letters to families of deceased Australian soldiers.
Thank God the siege is over, RIP to the dead!!! But I would have thought that a man with such history of violence should have been arrested or kept under watch.
I understand that he is an Iranian immigrant and also have a troubled criminal records... yet was let loose like a wild cat in the forest... allowed to perpetuate this crime against humanity .... in a country like Sydney... what were the officers(the authorities ie the police, immigration, etc) THINKING? if they see a green passport (confirmed hustler)t... the carrier must ebola...and must be screened with a yet to be invented machine... oga Abbort and uncle Ki-Moon said they lack words to describe it... okay. please help me greet the families of those who lost their lives ... ye yo wo... and those who escaped or survived the siege... ise lo gbe ... oba gha to kpe re.. ise.
